Historic sights

Kayseri was one of the most important cities of the Seljuk period, and that heritage is visible all over town.

• Gevher Nesibe: a Seljuk hospital and medical school founded in the early 13th century, now a museum of medical history
• Hunat Hatun complex: a 13th-century Seljuk mosque, madrasa and bathhouse
• Kayseri Castle: historic walls in the heart of the city

Just outside the city

• Ağırnas: the village where the architect Mimar Sinan was born, and his house
• Talas: a pleasant walk among old stone houses and streets
• Sultan Sazlığı: an important wetland for birdwatchers near Develi
• Cappadocia: valleys, fairy chimneys and balloons, about an hour's drive away
