Erciyes with Kids: A Family Ski Holiday Guide
Planning a family trip to Erciyes in the school holidays? What age children can start, which package to choose, how to dress them and how to handle the crowds.

For many families in Türkiye, the school holiday from late January to early February means a ski trip. With its short distance from the city, wide beginner areas and easy access, Erciyes is one of the most practical choices for families.
What age can children start skiing?
The ideal starting age for skiing and snowboarding is generally 6–7, and our programmes are suitable for ages 6 and over. Children usually learn faster than adults: they are less afraid of falling and find their balance sooner.
Which package should we choose?
If anyone in the family has never skied, the First Steps packages are the right choice: a 4-hour beginner lesson followed by practice with instructor support all day. Over a long school holiday, the 4-night package gives children much more time to consolidate what they learn. If parents ski and children are beginners, you can book different levels on the same dates.
How to dress children
- Layers: thermal base layer + fleece + ski jacket and trousers
- Thick ski socks instead of cotton socks
- A helmet is a must — included in the package
- A neck warmer or buff to protect the face from the wind
- Don't forget sunscreen and lip balm
Tips for the slopes with kids
- Take frequent breaks; a hot drink and a snack keep spirits up
- Let children progress at their own pace
- Tiredness builds up late in the day — don't push the last run
- In the evening, the hotel's indoor pool is a great reward
Crowds and booking
The school-holiday weeks are the busiest of the season, with longer queues on the pistes and lifts; starting early in the morning catches the quietest hours. These weeks fill up first, so arrange accommodation and flights early.
