Where to Stay for Skiing Erciyes: Tekir, Hisarcık or Kayseri City Centre?

There are three ways to stay for an Erciyes ski holiday: on the mountain at Tekir, at Hisarcık on the road up, or in Kayseri city centre. We compare the three on slope access, evenings, transport and budget.

Hotels at the foot of a snowy ski area in the mountains

One of the first questions when planning a ski holiday on Erciyes: where should you stay? On the mountain, right by the lifts, or in town? What sets Erciyes apart from many resorts is a large city just 25 km away. That widens your options, but makes the decision a little harder.

We don't list hotel names or prices here, as they change from season to season. Instead we compare the three main areas, Tekir, Hisarcık and Kayseri city centre, so you can decide which suits you.

A quick map first

Erciyes Ski Resort has four gates on different sides of the mountain: Tekir, Hisarcık, Hacılar and Develi, linked by lifts. Accommodation is mostly in three places:

  • Tekir: the resort's best-known and most developed gate, where the mountain hotels are.
  • Hisarcık: a settlement on the road between the city and the mountain, with more budget-friendly hotels and guesthouses.
  • Kayseri city centre: about 25 km from the resort, with plenty of hotels for every budget.

Tekir: by the lifts

Pros:

  • From many hotels the lifts are a short walk away, so you start skiing without waiting for a shuttle.
  • Easy to pop back to your hotel at lunchtime.
  • Practical for families with children and anyone who likes frequent breaks.

Cons:

  • Few options in the evening; restaurants and social life are mostly inside the hotels.
  • Rooms are hard to find in busy periods, and prices are usually higher than in the city.
  • At this altitude some people sleep less well on the first night.

Hisarcık: in between

Pros:

  • Closer to the mountain than the city, and usually cheaper than the mountain hotels.
  • A practical base if you have your own car.

Cons:

  • You are neither by the lifts nor in town, so you need transport both ways.
  • Few options in the evening.
  • Limited choice, and it fills quickly at busy times.

Kayseri city centre: in town, half an hour from the snow

Pros:

  • Lots of hotels at every price.
  • Lively evenings: Seljuk monuments, a covered bazaar, mantı and pastırma. Non-skiers in your group have far more to do. See things to do in Kayseri.
  • Close to the airport and bus station, which makes arrival and departure days easy.

Cons:

  • You head up to the mountain every morning; the drive takes around 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Going back to the hotel at lunchtime isn't practical, so you spend the whole day on the mountain.

Which suits you?

  • First time and want everything organised: Kayseri city centre with a package that includes transfers. The morning shuttle drops you at the gate and brings you back in the evening.
  • Skiing with children and planning frequent breaks: Tekir.
  • Experienced and want to be on the first lift: Tekir.
  • Driving yourself on a budget: Hisarcık or Kayseri city centre.
  • Travelling with non-skiers, or adding Cappadocia: Kayseri city centre.

Questions to ask before you book

  1. How do I get to the lifts? Is there a hotel shuttle, and when does it run?
  2. Is there a ski room? Carrying your gear every day gets tiring.
  3. Where is dinner? On the mountain there are few options outside the hotels.
  4. Which gate is it near? Plan your day around the gates; see planning your ski day at Erciyes.
  5. Are airport transfers included? This matters on arrival and departure days. See how to get to Erciyes.
