How to Become a Ski Instructor in Turkey: Coaching Levels, the Instructor Course and Requirements
To teach skiing for pay in Turkey you need the Turkish Ski Federation's instructor certificate. The coaching levels that come first, age and education requirements, exams, the annual licence renewal and recognition of foreign certificates.

Plenty of people watch the instructors on the slopes and wonder whether they could do it for a living. In Turkey, the route to teaching skiing for pay runs through the Turkish Ski Federation (TKF). This guide walks through the process based on the federation's regulations. Rules are updated from time to time, so always check the latest announcements on the federation's website before you apply.
Two separate paths: coach and instructor
What most people call a ski teacher is, in federation terms, an instructor (öğretici). Instructors teach skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing at every level, from complete beginners upwards. Under the federation's instructor regulation, only certified instructors may give paid lessons in these disciplines.
A coach (antrenör) trains athletes and works with clubs and schools. Coaching is organised in levels. The two paths are linked: you need to reach a certain coaching level before you can join the instructor course.
Step 1: coaching levels
- Age: According to the federation's course announcements, the first-level coaching course requires a minimum age of 22.
- In order: Each higher level requires the certificate from the level below.
- Applying: Applications are made through Turkey's e-Devlet portal, in the Sports Information System. Course dates and places are announced on the federation's website.
- Sports science graduates: Graduates of relevant degrees can apply for equivalence; for some levels the federation then requires a practical course.
Step 2: the instructor course
Under the federation's instructor regulation, to join the instructor course you must:
- Hold a third-level coaching certificate in alpine skiing, cross-country or snowboarding and have worked at that level for at least one term with a club, school, university or national team,
- Have finished at least high school,
- Be at least 26 years old,
- Provide a criminal record certificate and a health report,
- Have no disciplinary penalty above a set length in the last three years.
The course has theory and practical parts, and depending on numbers there may be a practical pre-selection. The pass mark for both the theory and the practical exam is 70 out of 100. Successful candidates receive the federation's instructor certificate.
Fees are announced each year. For example, the federation's spring 2026 alpine instructor course announcement listed a remaining course fee of 35,000 TL after pre-registration.
The annual licence renewal
The certificate alone isn't enough: instructors must renew their licence every year. Under the regulation, an instructor without a valid annual renewal may not give paid lessons. For the 2026 season the renewal fee was announced as 4,000 TL.
Foreign certificates
If you hold an instructor qualification from another country, you can apply for recognition. Under the regulation, applications are reviewed by the federation's education board and decided by its board of directors.
How good do you need to be?
The practical exams and pre-selection call for strong technique. Before applying, you should ski red and black runs comfortably and cleanly in all snow conditions. Our guides to carving on skis and skiing moguls are a good place to keep improving.
Are you an instructor or ski school?
If you're a certified instructor or run a ski school, you can sell your programmes on Aventurway; see our partner application page. And if you're looking for lessons yourself, our guide to ski lessons for beginners explains why a certified instructor matters.
